INTERIOR OF TIMEWORN SHED — DAYBREAK

Father and son are preparing to hike up Mount Moriah.

ABRAHAM, well over one hundred years old, lays two large pieces of lumber on his son, ISSAC. Abraham then takes a torch in one hand and a knife in the other.

ABRAHAM
(Under his breath)
What business do you now have with me Most High God? Am I being tormented? Am I?

ISSAC, youthful, studies the expression of agony on his father’s brow.

A SQUEAL echoes in the distance.

ISSAC
Father, did you hear that?

Suddenly, two round stones drop from a woven basket, Issac picks up the stones and reaches palms upward to his father.

ABRAHAM
Let’s put it back where it belongs.

MIDWIFE
Don’t be afraid, you have another son!

RACHEL
(Trying to hold a smile)
It’s almost as if I could feel him leaping in my womb. But please, call him Benoni.
